Brooks Wins Travel Grant to 2017 ITER International School
John Brooks, a Plasma Physics graduate student in Prof. Michael Mauel's group, received a travel scholarship to attend the 2017 ITER International School. Mandal Selected as SEAS Nickolaus Named Fellow
Jyotirmoy Mandal, a Solid State Physics Ph.D. student in Prof. Yuan Yang's group, has been selected as the SEAS Nickolaus Named Fellow for the 2016-2017 academic year. Named fellowships are funded by generous donations from alumni, parents, and friends of Columbia Engineering.
Haixing Li Wins APS Travel Award
Haixing Li, a Solid State Ph.D. student from Prof. Latha Venkataraman's group, received an Ovshinsky Student Travel Award for the 2017 March APS Meeting in New Orleans.The Awards are presented through the APS Division of Materials Physics (DMP). Recipients and their advisors were invited to the DMP/DCMP reception during the March Meeting where each recipient was recognized, presented with a certificate, and received a $500 check.
Shaowen Chen's Science Paper Named a Top 10 Breakthrough of 2016
APAM graduate student, Shaowen Chen, authored a Science paper this fall which was recently named as one of the top ten breakthroughs of 2016 by Physics World magazine. Chen is in the Solid State Physics Ph.D. program in the APAM Department and is advised by Prof. Cory Dean in the Physics Department.
