Sobel Receives Columbia Global Center Rio Climate Hub Award
Professor Adam Sobel, Professor in the Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics and Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, at Columbia Engineering, and his colleague, Professor Suzana Camargo, the Marie Tharp Lamont Research Professor at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and Columbia Climate School, have received a Columbia Global Center Rio: Climate Hub Award for their project, "Simulation of Extreme Weather Events in Brazilian Megacities."
In early 2023, the Columbia Global Center in Rio de Janeiro launched its Climate Hub | Rio — a new public-private partnership — with seed funding from the City of Rio de Janeiro. The Climate Hub | Rio seeks to encourage training, research and events that focus on a variety of areas related to urban sustainability, the green economy and land use in Brazil (with priority given to the City of Rio de Janeiro). The awards support Columbia University faculty, researchers, doctoral students and postdocs committed to pursuing climate-related research in Brazil.
