New Faculty Member: Curtiss Lyman
We are proud to announce that Curtiss Lyman has joined the APAM Department as an Assistant Professor of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics.
Professor Lyman's research focuses on partial differential equations arising from condensed matter physics and the study of quantum materials. Recently, he has been interested in how Floquet-Bloch theory, spectral theory, and representation theory can be applied to reduce the dimension of such problems when symmetries are involved, and the impact this has on the physical behavior of the corresponding waves. This fall, Lyman will be teaching APMA 2000E: Multivariable Calculus, which he is very excited about, as an analogous class is what initially convinced him to pursue a career in mathematics. Outside of academia, Lyman loves board games, sailing, and his chocolate lab Zelda, and would love to talk to you about them.
The APAM Department is excited to welcome him to our community and look forward to the impact his expertise and research will bring to the department and beyond.
