Weinstein Elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences
Professor Michael I. Weinstein has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Professor Weinstein joined the Columbia University faculty in 2004 and holds joint appointments as a Professor of Applied Mathematics in the Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics, and as a Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics. He has made major contributions to the mathematical analysis of partial differential equations and other models governing waves in classical and quantum systems.
A recognized leader in his field, Professor Weinstein is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society (AMS), a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), and a Senior Fellow in the Simons Society of Fellows. He has served as a Simons Foundation Math + X Investigator since 2015 and also received the Martin Kruskal Prize from SIAM in 2018 for his work on nonlinear waves and coherent structures.
Founded in 1780, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences elects members who have made exceptional contributions to the arts, sciences, academia, business, and public affairs. Professor Weinstein now joins a distinguished group that includes Nobel laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, and leaders across disciplines.
