Women and Diversity in APAM (WDAPAM)

Women and Diversity in APAM (WDAPAM) is a new association in the department for diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in our community

Women and Diversity in APAM (WDAPAM) is a new association in the department for diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in our community. The purpose of this association is to support and increase the visibility of its members: individuals of historically marginalized minorities in APAM, including but not limited to women. We welcome everyone to join, whether you are a student, a postdoc researcher, or a faculty! The planned activities starting next Spring include:

  • Research Panel and Discussion: Invite female faculty, researchers and senior PhD students to share their research experiences and career stories, followed by a casual discussion among participants.

  • Research Mentorship Program: Provide undergraduate or master students from women and other STEM underrepresented minority groups (URMs) with research opportunities and mentored by APAM PhD students.

  • Peer application review program: We will invite prospective students, especially URMs, to get help with application materials for our PhD program from current APAM PhD students.

To receive announcments about upcoming events and communicate within the association, please join our Slack Group. A Columbia University email address is required to join.

If you'd like to participate as a WDAPAM committee member, in addition to joining the slack, please let the grad students involved know by emailing [email protected]. We will meet semi-regularly each semester to organize these events.
