The APAM Department offers cross-cutting research in the fields of applied physics, applied mathematics, and materials science and engineering. The graduate program includes research in plasma physics and controlled fusion; solid-state physics; optical and laser physics; medical physics; atmospheric, oceanic, and earth physics; and applied mathematics.

APAM Graduate Student Events

  • APAM Research Conference (Friday mornings)
    In the spring semester, graduate students are invited to present their research to the faculty and their peers
  • APAM Friday (Once a month, on Friday evenings)
    Our Department’s monthly social hour with free appetizers and refreshments for grad students, postdocs, faculty, and staff

Housing

Columbia University offers affordable graduate student housing arrangements near campus. Graduate students are eligible for couple or family housing, but must certify their couple or family status prior to move-in.
